Grille Guide

What is replacement billet grille?

Unlike a Bolt Over Billet Grille that sits right on top of your stock grille, a Replacement Billet Grille is a complete transformation. Everything that your auto manufacturer installed in the grille section will be taken off in exchange for your personally chosen new billet grille. This means that you will have to perform a bit of bodywork, but it is not as bad as it sounds. Most stock grilles are mounted by plastic brackets, so all you have to do is slice through them with a saw, which should take no more than 30 minutes. Some stock grilles are even easier to remove. All you need to do is to untie the mounting hardware on the factory grille and remove the factory plastic grille. Once the original is out, your new Replacement Billet Grille takes its place. On certain vehicles, some easy drilling might be needed. Although the Replacement Billet Grilles take longer to install, the final result makes the time worthwhile.

What is billet grille insert?

Some customers are always confused by the complete grilles and grille inserts. In the after market billet grille world, we call the billet grilles as grille inserts. The billet grilles that have the inserts attached with the grille shell are called complete grilles. Most of the billet grille sellers just sell grille inserts. If you want the complete grille, normally you need to turn to the ABS plastic chrome grilles. You may check our chrome complete grilles.

What is bolt-over or bolt-on grille?

Bolt-over grilles are also called bolt-on, overlay, slap on, and EZ billet grilles in the after market grille industry. They are the easiest, least time-consuming to install. Rather than completely replacing your existing grille work, a Bolt Over Billet Grille sits right on top of your existing one. These have pre-attached hidden bolts and use brackets and locknuts for a solid, secure and simple installation. They require no drilling or cutting of any kind. Bolt over grilles suit the buyer who can't modify their vehicles (such as they lease the vehicle and have to return in a certain time) or who don't feel comfortable to do any modifications to their vehicles. The shortcoming for boltover grilles is you may see the factory grille underneath the billet grille from a close distance. But it will not be noticeable when you drive on the road.

There are two types of bolt-over grilles in the market. They are identified by their installation methods. One is mounted by bolts and nuts which come with the grille as a hardware kit. We are selling this type of bolt-over grilles. Some sellers use zipties to tie the billet grilles on the factory grilles. The tie will turn loose after driving for a while.

Difference of aluminum grille & stainless steel grille

Stainless steel grille has the same style and look the same as the aluminum billet grille. However, stainless steel will not rust and never goes dull while aluminum normally becomes oxidized in 2-3 years. You need to take care of the aluminum with mild soap water once a month. As the stainless steel grille has a higher price than the aluminum grille, the aluminum grille is much more popular in the market. Both of them have great results after installation. If you can afford the price for stainless steel grille and plan to keep your vehicle for a long time, we recommend you go for the stainless steel version. If you are a fashion chaser and plan to change your vehicle look once a while, the aluminum grille will be a wise choice for you.
